Vallarta Food Bank Makes Delicious Meals for Families

Today my dad and I were back in town by the Vallarta Food Bank and again, we decided to stop by and see what was going on.

They had just as many busy workers as they did last time, preparing food and cooking to get ready for over 500 people. The workers let me into their kitchen to look at the food they were cooking, and it all looked quite tasty.

There were two big pans topped full with delicious looking, perfectly cooked, white rice. And in one giant pot they were making what they call “Salchichas,” which is hot dogs, with carrots, onions, and other vegetables and spice in a tomato base sauce and Chile Guajillo, Chile Cola De Rata, and other chilies. “It tastes like spicy tomato sauce,” as one of the volunteer workers described it. They offered me to taste the food, and it tasted just as good as it looked. The rice was a perfect base for the “Salchichas,” which was full of flavor. I’ve never tried anything like it before, but it was delicious.

After talking with the workers for some time, my dad and I exchanged our goodbyes with the good people at the Food Bank and went on our way. We stopped at the Taco Row, since it was so close, and we got some delicious tacos and a Cuban torta, yum yum. We also enjoyed some really good orange water, and then went home.

I’m excited and can’t wait for the next time I’m by the Vallarta Food Bank so I can get to see the kitchen and what they are cooking that day. Their dishes are always so unique and protein filled, which is important for their meals, especially when some people may only get one a day.

Vallarta Food Bank has been helping feed people in need for the duration of the pandemic, and they could always use more help. Please visit their website or Facebook page to make a direct donation or to find out how to donate food items, or you can even volunteer!
