Election Period “Dry Law” Will Not Apply in Puerto Vallarta

The municipal government of Puerto Vallarta announced that this weekend in which the electoral day will take place, the temporary prohibition for the sale of alcoholic beverages, or 'Dry Law' will not be implemented in this city,

prioritizing the process of economic reactivation, in addition to the fact that there is little risk of violence or insecurity for the population around this electoral contest.

This was determined based on what the law establishes and by indications of the interim mayor, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado, that locations that sell alcohol, both in open and closed containers, may operate normally and shall comply with the provisions of the municipal regulations on the matter, and must respect the hours of operation.

This, in turn, to avoid affecting local businesses in the process of economic recovery due to the pandemic, and which stopped the activities of this type of business for a long time. In addition there is little risk of acts of violence, given that the establishments have already been operating without incident.

However, it appeals to the responsibility of the public to moderate the consumption of intoxicating beverages from the day before and during the election. On Election Sunday, anyone under the influence of alcohol or intoxicated will be invited to leave the polling stations to avoid disruption of order, tranquility, and social peace.

It should be added that to guarantee order and tranquility of the people during the electoral day this Sunday, by instructions of the municipal president, security and police surveillance will be reinforced throughout the municipality, in coordination with the different state and federal corporations.
