Green Angels Have Assisted Travelers in Mexico for Over 60 Years

The Green Angels is considered a tourist service that since 1960 has distinguished Mexico on a global level by providing tourist assistance that the Secretariat of Tourism provides free of charge through the Green Angels Corporation to national and foreign tourists and compatriots.

The Green Angels patrol an average of 60,000 kilometers daily, and more than 22 million kilometers annually providing support to travelers along 262 of the country's highway routes from 8:00am to 6:00pm, 365 days a year. They have their own speed dial number of 078 that anyone who requires road assistance can call during their hours of operation.

Their services include:

Central Dispatch and Control Services

Mechanical assistance and assistance in emergency radio communication.

Help in the case of accidents.

Assistance to the general population in the case of a disaster.

Orientation and information on destinations, attractions, and state and regional tourist services.

History-in-Tow

In 1977, the Green Angels were awarded with a brand-new ’76 Airstream Globe Trotter courtesy of the Airstream Corporation in appreciation of their assistance to the Wally Byam Caravans over the previous 20 years. The Green Angels had accompanied their every caravan serving an estimated 30,000 travelers. In their special case, the caravans were assigned their own Green Angels representative, and the new trailer served as living quarters for the duration of the journey.

Back to the Future

To provide guidance and tourist assistance services on the roads, modern radio communication equipment allows more effective service to all users. Currently, the Central Dispatch of the Green Angels has state-of-the-art technology, which allows, in addition to radio communication with the patrols, an integration of the automatic vehicle location service, and the possibility of interconnection with other equipment of communication (UHF / VHF) for emergency care, which has replaced the amateur radio system with which the Green Angels had been operating for more than 40 years.

They currently have 200 radios with an automatic vehicle location system in the new trucks, and will advance to achieve this equipment in all the radio patrols of Green Angel vehicles.

The Green Angels recommend that before heading out on the road:

Check the condition of the vehicle's brakes, clutch, tires and suspension.

Verify that you have a spare tire, jack and tool.

Check the vehicle’s electrical system

Check the oil level of the engine and transmission box, and change as recommended.

Check the vehicle's coolant level, adding if necessary.

The Green Angels suggest that when you drive on the highway:

Drive with caution, respect the signs and avoid high speeds.

If you are tired, do not drive.

If you have consumed alcoholic beverages, do not drive.

Use the seat belt.

Do not exceed speed limits.

Do not throw garbage or other objects on the road.

Try to travel in the hours of daylight.

The Green Angels wish each person who travels by road to a destination in Mexico to be a spokesperson not only for our history, culture, values, natural resources, and tourist attractions; but also for the hospitality, quality, and warmth of the orientation services, tourist assistance, and road assistance that the Green Angels offer.

Remember: "Travel safely to your destination; the Green Angels guard your way."
