The United States delegation shone brightly over the weekend at the López Mateos Sports Center, home of the Pan American Youth Artistic Gymnastics Championship.

With Saturday’s accumulation of 161,700 points, the US team topped the podium, followed by the representation of Brazil, with 147,250, and relegating the Argentine team to third place, which closed its competition with a cumulative of 145,750 units.

The Mexican team closed in fourth position, with 143,450 points.

The best competitor of this day was Katelyn Jong, from the United States, who obtained the gold in the all around with 54,100 points. Her teammate Madray Johnson brought home the silver thanks to her 53,550 units, and Jamaican Alana Walker with bronze, after accumulating 52,150 points.

The United States anthem resounded six times Sunday in the artistic gymnastics stadium, to recognize the performance of its representatives in the Pan-American Youth Artistic Gymnastics Championship.

There were six gold medals, six silver, and one bronze medal that were added on the last day by the North Americans, highlighting Katylin Jong in the women's branch, as the winner of two golds and one silver; while Mexico won two bronze medals through Mariangela Flores in bars, and Ricardo Torres, in rings.

“We are very grateful for the trust they showed in us as the host state for this event. The Mexicans who participated make up a generation of young people who will soon be giving outstanding results, and we are going to Cali, Colombia for the medals,” said Jaime Romero, president of the Jalisco State Gymnastics Association.

Sunday concluded the event that served as a selective to the Youth Pan American Games, which will be held in the city of Cali, Colombia, at the end of  2021. Two Mexican teams will be participating, one per branch, after having placed in fourth position in this contest.
