The Paradero Sports Center Weightlifting Forum of Guadalajara will host the Pan-American Youth Championship of the specialty, from October 19 to 23.
The Mexican team began is preparing to face this contest with the aim of finishing in the highest among all the teams.
This was pointed out by Professor Lázaro Medina, Secretary General of the Mexican Federation of Weightlifting, and national coach and delegate of the youth team that will participate in the Pan-American Championship in Jalisco next week.
“We are already in the final stretch, in the last competitive week to start the Pan American. It is a very strong team, which obtained first place in Manizales, Colombia a few months ago, and we want to endorse that position at the Pan-American level. Almost everyone got first places and gold medals, and that's what we want this time. The team is very strong and part of it will participate in the Junior Pan American Games in Cali in November.”
Precisely with Cali on the horizon, Medina Lugo assured that competing in a scenario such as the Weightlifting Forum before the best of the continent at the youth level, will give an extra motivation to the Aztec weightlifters who will travel to make the most of the tournament that will begin next Tuesday, October 19.
“This competition is preparatory for them. It is a very important international blank,… but it is a scenario that will also encourage athletes to give their best in this Pan American and, logically, to seek that positive mentality for Cali.”
There are 24 athletes that make up the national team for the Youth Pan American team, young people who have known each other for many years, so the atmosphere in the group is not only good, but they all cooperate and support each other to improve their performance and obtain the best results.
“Most have known each other for years. They have competed in what was the National Olympiad since they were 13 years old, they have been part of the U-17 national team. They have traveled together to international competitions, they have been (together) in concentrations. It is a very united team, they support each other and they have that mentality of seeking, in the near future, coexistence with the senior team towards the upcoming Central American and Pan American Games, and are already thinking about the Paris Olympics. This part of the Youth is the one that we have to support at this moment, because they are the ones who (will determine) the sporting result of the weights.”
Finally, Lázaro Medina specified the aspects that will be worked on in the last days prior to the start of the Pan American Youth Championship, where the objective is none other than to put Mexico at the top of the podium.
“We are practically already in the tournament. This week it is time to get to the weights, last warm-ups, see technical details, training behaviors,… strategy, see if we go up or down. That's what this week is for.”
