Mexican boxer María Guadalupe Rodríguez wrote her name in gold letters when she won the gold medal of the welterweight division in the Pan American Youth Boxing Qualifying Tournament.
The qualifying event for the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games was held this afternoon in the Dome of the Alcalde Sports Center in Guadalajara.
The Aztec fighter María Guadalupe Rodríguez defeated the American Jesikah Guerra after three thunderous rounds and after the judges determined her victory by split decision. In addition, the Mexican delegation won five silver medals, courtesy of Kevin Cantabrana in the welterweight division, Yahir Gallardo in light heavyweight division, Ángel Daniel López in heavyweight division, Margarita Murguía in flyweight division and Rosa de la Luz in featherweight division.
This final day of the tournament crowned the Americans Isaías Navarro, Julius Yasir Ballo and Joel Iriarte in the flyweight, featherweight and lightweight divisions, respectively. The Cuban Jorge Forcades was crowned in the welterweight division, the Brazilian Felipe de Oliveira earned the gold in the middleweight division, and Luis Reynoso, Ronnye Álvarez and Adrián Fresneda, all three Cubans, took the gold in semi complete, complete, and super complete.
In the women's divisions, Kayla Gómez, also from the United States, took gold in flyweight, while her compatriot Jewry Rodríguez earned gold in featherweight. The Colombian Camila Gabriela Camilo took the gold in the lightweight division and, finally, the Venezuelan Maryelis Yriza was proclaimed champion in middleweight.
It should be noted that this tournament awarded eight places per weight division for the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games, which will be held in November.
