Weigh-In Completed, the Tribute to the Kings is Ready for the Big Show

This afternoon, the magnificent Degollado de la Perla Tapatia Theater was a silent witness to the weigh-in ceremony of the boxing function "Tribute to the Kings."

This will take place this Saturday, June 19, at the Jalisco Stadium with the Mexican legend and World Champion Julio César Chávez as the main protagonist, in what will be his last appearance on the ring. His opponent will be Héctor “Macho” Camacho Jr, son of one of his greatest rivals, the late Héctor “Macho” Camacho.

The great Mexican champion weighed in at 65 kilograms, Camacho came in at 66.2 kilograms. After overcoming the scale, the Aztec legend thanked the public who gathered at the Historic Center of La Perla Tapatia, and reiterated his desire to provide a great show in what will be his last appearance on the ring.

“I want you to join me this Saturday at the Jalisco Stadium for my last fight… with Machito Camacho. His father was a great rival in the ring, but we were friends outside of it. My body tells me enough is enough, my family also; but I gave my word and I will keep it. I'm going to beat up Camacho and I'm going to give the people a great show,” Chavez declared as he received the applause and cheers.

“Machito” confirmed his respect for the legendary Aztec fighter, but said he was ready to face him on the Jalisco Stadium arena.

“We are ready, we already trained, I have my strategy, and we are going to dance with Chávez in the ring. I respect him a lot, he was a friend of my father even though they were great rivals, but this Saturday he is going to get out of the ring with a cane,” said the Puerto Rican.

The protagonists of the rest of the evening's fights also appeared before the scale. Julio César Chávez Jr weighed in at 84 kilograms, the same tonnage recorded by his rival, the Brazilian legend of mixed martial arts, Anderson “Spider” Silva.

In addition, Omar Chávez, who will face Ramón “Inocente” Álvarez in what will be the third fight between them, with the balance of a victory per side, stopped the scale at 73.1 kilos and 72.6 kilos, respectively.

The Tijuana-based Damián “Samurai” Sosa weighed in at 70.5 kilos, and will face the Ecuadorian Abel Mina, who registered the same weight, for the North American super welterweight championship. Kevin Torres weighed in at 63.7 kilograms, and will face Jorge “Silenástico” Meléndez at super lightweight.
