Recovery In Paradise: A Men’s Drug And Alcohol Rehab Clinic In PV

Recovery In Paradise: A Men’s Drug And Alcohol Rehab Clinic In PV

A couple days ago my dad and I had an appointment with the owner of Recovery In Paradise, John Martin, to talk about his work.

Recovery In Paradise is a 90-day recovery program for men suffering from drugs and alcohol abuse. Most recovery programs in the United States or Canada can cost as much as 30,000 dollars, for only a 30-day program. But, this program cost 17,000 Canadian dollars, and anyone can join it, from anywhere. The purpose of Recovery In Paradise is to help those in need, and gain money to help more people in need.

The program includes a doctor checkup within 24 hours of the arrival of the guest, a room to stay in, sometimes with a roommate, 3 meals a day and snacks with vegetarian options, a cleaning person who comes daily, one massage per week, yoga 3-5 days a week, a pool on site, a living area with many games, personal therapy twice a week as well as group therapy, “12 step” meetings, a nutritional program, and a recovery coach. The guest also receives a T-Shirt and occasionally the guests will go on excursions together. If the guest doesn’t live in Puerto Vallarta, then the program also will pay for their airfare to and from, and they will be picked up and taken to the airport.

Many guests have gone to Recovery In Paradise, and John says that all of them have changed from this. One of the guests says, “This man saved my life.” He was struggling so bad that his daughter had not been allowed to visit him for over a year, and he cannot go back to the U.S for unrelated reasons. And a couple days ago, since it was his birthday, he sent his daughter a note with flowers and other gifts, instead of her sending him something. And, as soon as he’s done and graduates the program he’ll get to see her. And it’s all because of John, who talked to the guest from the heart, and got him to enter the program, and the rest of the staff who work at Recovery In Paradise. John himself also used to be a cocaine addict but has been sober for 21 years, and all the other staff is sober too, whether or not they had trouble with drugs and/or alcohol.

But, even though the Recovery In Paradise program is doing very good for other people, and their lives are getting 100 times better, it costs a lot of money to operate. The staff is spending a lot of money on airfare, food, a cleaning person, entertainment, medical care, and a physiologist, so they could really use your help right now. Any donation is better than none, so even small amounts help the Recovery In Paradise staff greatly. And currently they are looking for a yoga instructor to come from 9:00-10:00 or 9:30-10:30 am, as their last yoga instructor is no longer with them, but they cannot offer high wages.
