Lunch With Elizabeth And Her Family At El Va De Nuez

Lunch With Elizabeth And Her Family At El Va De Nuez

Today we went to a place we've been dying to go to for a long time.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best not so popular cheap eats, mostly family-owned, restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place, or big place, to tell you about and review the food and prices.

Whenever I go towards pitillal I always notice this little restaurant that's always super packed, and it’s always caught my interest, but I always seemed to pass by when I was going to some other place, and I didn’t know what it was called, or when they were open. But today I remembered it, and finally today we went to it! It’s called El Va De Nuez, and is located on Av. Las Torres 146 in Fovissste 96 and the longitude latitude location is 20.643415309129512, -105.21465620010193. They said they don’t have delivery yet, but they’re planning on getting it sometime in the future.

El Va De La Nuez is a small fonda, which is also fairly new, since it’s only been here for about a year. The owner, Elizabeth, opened during the pandemic because she needed a way to make independent money, and people really liked her cooking, so she decided to open up her first restaurant. Other people from her family haven’t owned restaurants, but they have worked with food, and the recipes she has are from her family over the past 3 generations. Her menu changes everyday, so she writes it on a chalkboard, and by the time we got there it was wiped off and put away in the corner. So the waitress had to simply tell us what they had, which was comida corridas with a jug of water, soup, the main dish, and a small dessert, for only 70 pesos!! Around 3 dollars and 50 cents!! Today they had meatballs, chicharon in green sauce, pork in green sauce, and chile rellenos. The water was mandarin, and the dessert was flan!

The soup they had today was fideo, my favorite! The broth was really good and really full of flavor, and though the noodles were a little undercooked, they had pretty good flavor nonetheless.  As for the main course, I got the meatballs, or albondigas, and oh my gosh they were delicious! They were made out of pork, yet they tasted like a mixture of pork and beef. They had lots of spices that went really well together, and were in the perfect amount, yet you could still taste the amazing flavor of the meat. Also, they had a little bit of meat sauce at the bottom of the plate, which was really flavorful, and reminded me of meat sauce you put in some lasagnas. The flan was super creamy and fresh, and it tasted like it was real flan, not made from a powder in a box. Everything was simply super good!!!

My dad really enjoyed the soup as well, and ordered chiles rellenos, though they were almost out when we got there. They only had three left, Perfect! Apparently, it is their most sold item!! I’m not a big fan of chiles rellenos, so I didn’t taste it myself, but my dad likes them and he said they were delicious. The chili was full of queso Oaxaca that was stringy and stretchy, yet not super melty. And it has a really good, unique flavor. The chili itself was tasty too, and it was perfectly crunchy. My dad really really liked it, and he also says the beans and rice that accompanied it had great flavor as well. And once again, unique.

El Va De La Nuez is a pretty small place with only a few tables, and when we went it was packed full. Actually, the owner’s brother was there eating, and he got up to give us a seat. My dad ended up making conversation with him, as he always does, and he was quite interesting! He has a massage school, and teaches massage for muscle pain, bone pains, and for pure pleasure. He says he uses old techniques that the Olmecs and Mayas used!! And his wife is a Chinese doctor and herboligist! They are from Mexico City, but they’ve moved here to raise they’re son, who had a friendly little Chihuahua with him. And all of them say that Elizabeth’s cooking is absolutely delicious!! You heard it from me, you heard it from my dad, and you heard it from them!!
