Four Generations Of Flavor At Birrieria Casillas

Four Generations Of Flavor At Birrieria Casillas

Today we went to get some delicious birria at Birrieria Casillas.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best not so popular cheap eats, mostly family-owned, restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place, or big place, to tell you about and review the food and prices.

Today my dad and I had plans to go to a little loncheria place, but sadly they were closed, and as we were driving down the road looking for something else, we came upon a little family-owned birria place. We’d driven by it before, and maybe even have stopped there before, though I don’t remember, so we decided to go there for brunch. The place is called Birrieria Casillas, and it was packed full. It is located on Av. Puerto Las Peñas 503 in Ramblases, and the longitude latitude location is 20.629303642667416, -105.20970710686542. They also do deliveries to all of Puerto Vallarta, and to the tourist/hotel zone like the malecon and beach area its only about 20-30 pesos, which is under two dollars! And they’re open everyday except on Wednesday, from 7 am-3:30 pm on weekdays and 7 am-4 pm on weekends.

Birrieria Casillas obviously serves birria, but they also serve other foods such as eggs, carne en su jugo, bbq ribs, chicken milanesa, carne asada, and on weekends menudo and carnitas. The birria is a recipe that’s been passed on from about 4 or maybe even 5 generations, and the family who owns the business has used it for around 30 years; though they’ve only had the restaurant for 15. And, people must love the place, since it’s always packed, and while we were there we saw take-out order after take-out order go out, and phone call after phone call come in. Everyone was always on their feet and working, yet they all looked happy and content doing so.

I got a taco special, where you get 4 tacos, a small consume, and either 1 liter of water, a soda, or a coffee for only 65 pesos. That’s a little over 3 dollars!! And, the tacos were delicious. Normally birria, and especially its consume, is vey greasy, but this wasn’t at all. It barely had any grease in it, so it was similar to barbacoa, but it had all the flavors of the different spices like traditional birria has. I could very much taste the clove, cinnamon, cumin, etc. The birria here is super flavorful, though personally I did add some salt.

My dad got the same as me, and he says he’s eaten here many times. He also says its always just as flavorful, and that this is his favorite place to get birria. Not only because of the flavor, but because the dorados are always crunchy, and even though they’re made ahead of time they are never soggy, and are always hot because they are kept on the stove. But, my dad does agree that they need a little more salt, though that isn’t a problem. You can always add salt, but you can’t take it out, and for some people who don’t enjoy salty foods or are on a salt-restrictive diet its perfect.

Birrieria Casillas isn’t a very large place, but they do have indoor seating, a couple outdoor tables, and both curbside and in-store pickup. You may have to wait to get seated because they are pretty popular, but there are also some steps right outside, and if you don’t mind you can sit there and eat. Though, if you don’t want to wait and don’t want to sit on steps, you can take your food to go, or just order it for delivery from your home. Even if you live all the way in Old Town, for the taco special and the delivery, it would still only cost around 5 dollars. And the tacos are huge! Both my dad and I could only eat two, so that’s a heck of a deal.
