Comida Corrida is all over Mexico, and there are many good places to find it. And one of those is Loncheria El Tarasco. It is located on Calle Brasil 1649 in the Colonia Cárdenas.
It’s also a block away from Estadio Municipal Augustin Flores Contreras. But, if you live in the area and want food delivered you can give them a call and, as long as they’re not too busy they can deliver it for you!
Loncheria El Tarasco serves many different options, and the daily menu is relatively the same, but sometimes slightly changes. Today they had beef soup, chicken soup, mole, steak in sauce, chicken-fried-steak, and some other items as well.
My dad and I both got the steak in sauce, I ordered mine with tomato sauce and he ordered tomatillo sauce, and we both got a liter of cebada, which is barley water.
The plates came with a big pile of meat, that even my dad couldn’t finish, a salad, rice, and refried beans toppeed with queso fresco. The meat was super tender, and not spicy like I’m used to with my dad’s cooking, which always has many levels of chiles in it. Either way, the food was authentic ranchero cooking, and pretty good. They had a delicious salsa made for dipping chips, but my dad and I put a whole bunch on our steak, and we loved it that way! For the both of us it cost 190 pesos, or just under 10 dollars, which is quite cheap especially considering how large the servings were!!
The place itself isn’t particularly fancy, but actually kind of nice! They have a nicely sized patio at the back, full of flowers and other plants, which is quite lovely. Then there is the main area where the tables are, and at the side is the kitchen and bathrooms. The kitchen is big and you get to see the women cooking, which I think is cool. And the bathrooms were very clean and nice with pretty Mexican tiles.
Overall, the place was inexpensive, clean, and pretty good. The plates had generous portions, and I did enjoy our lunch. It’s conveniently located near the hotel zone and 5 de Diciembre, so if you’re in that area I recommend stopping by.
