Today we got traditional lamb barbacoa.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best not so well known cheap eats, mostly family-owned, restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place, or big place, to tell you about and review the food and prices.

If you couldn’t tell by now, I really like tacos. And one of my preferred types of tacos is birria. Though, the only downside to them is that most of the time they are quite greasy. So, that’s why barbacoa tacos are definitely one of my favorites if not the favorite. The flavor is very similar to that of birria, except it’s more natural, and there’s a lot less grease! And, today we decided to try a new barbacoa place that is located on Liverpool 6 in Versalles.

The barbacoa here is traditional Hidalgo-style barbacoa, so that means it’s lamb meat. You can get tacos, quesadillas, huaraches, or just a plate of barbacoa in its consume! You can also get a plain consume to dip your tacos into or to simply eat like soup. To drink they have soft drinks and the water of the day, which was guayaba and mint today!

I wasn’t very hungry so I only got a quesadilla and a large water. I’ve had lamb a couple times before and I was never a huge fan, but I thought this barbacoa would be good. And don’t get me wrong, it was good, but I didn’t like the lamb meat. It was very gamy and had a weird texture, but with enough salsa, it covered the flavor of the meat. Then all I could taste was a corn tortilla and salsa, which I can’t say was bad.

My dad on the other hand has had lamb multiple times, and he doesn't even like it. He loves it. Also, three of his friends, Daniel, Adam, and Diana love it as well, which is why I'm writing about it. Just because I personally don't enjoy lamb doesn't mean it's bad food or other people won't enjoy it. Anyways, my dad's the type of person to say it’s not gamy, and it’s simply a unique flavor. And because of that, he decided to get 3 tacos dorados, and of course a large water. He really enjoyed the tacos, but more than anything he enjoyed the salsas, as usual. There was one red one that was a tiny bit spicy and made with Chile Morita, which is the one I used. And then there was a green one made with chile serrano. It was slightly spicier, but it didn’t have as much flavor.

Like I said before, this barbacoa is traditional Hidalgo-style cooking, and the owner, Fernando, takes pride in that. Fernando is from Hidalgo, and he grew up around this type of food. When he moved to Puerto Vallarta, he saw that not many people served Hidalgo-style food, and that saddened him. So, he opened up his own place! And, now we have delicious and traditional barbacoa, or at least delicious to some people.
