The Food and Flavors from Local Colonias Right in the Tourist Zone

The Food and Flavors from Local Colonias Right in the Tourist Zone

Today we went to a super low-cost restaurant with delicious and unique food.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best not so well known cheap eats, mostly family-owned, restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place, or big place, to tell you about and review the food and prices.

I’ve been trying to find some good yet low-cost restaurants closer to town, because most of the restaurants I’ve reviewed are in places like Pitillal and Ramblases, which not everyone is comfortable going to. Though, the last three places I found weren’t very good, and not worth writing about. But, I’m happy to say that today I found a super low-cost place, and it’s really close to Plaza Caracol. It’s called La Bendita Hora and is located on Viena 12-90 in Díaz Ordaz.

As you’re walking up to it you’re probably going to think that it is right beside a coffee shop, but it’s actually the same place, and you can order from outside as you’re walking by. But, that also means that the inside is huge! And not only that, but it’s also very pretty.

You’d expect fancy, expensive food to be served at this place, but instead it is low-cost fonda food. They even have a comida corrida for only 75 pesos, but for some reason it wasn’t available this week.

My dad was really disappointed when he found out that he couldn’t get the comida corrida, but he ended up getting a burger. Seeing as it was only 69 pesos, he expected it to be small, and he got a Caesar salad to go along with it. But, turns out the burger was actually really big, and really good! It was kind of a mix between an American burger and a Mexican Burger, because it had tomato and lettuce, but it also had pickled jalapeños on it instead of regular pickles. It was really good though, and the homemade patty was super juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The salad was also low-cost, so it didn’t have romaine lettuce, but it was good none-the-less. It had a mixture of iceberg lettuce, tomato, cucumber, crotons, and a whole bunch of their homemade dressing! It nowhere near a traditional Caesar salad, but it sure was good!

I got a huarache with beef, and it was giant! It was so much bigger than I thought, and, once again, super low-cost! It had lots of lettuce, cucumber, and tomato on top of it, which I’ve never seen put on a huarache before, but I can’t say it wasn’t good! It was like I had a little salad of my own! But, in all seriousness, the huarache was super good and full of flavors! I won’t say it’s the best I’ve had, but it’s pretty high on the list!! The meat was super tender and so full of flavor, and it had a delicious red sauce mixed in with it. The sauce was almost like enchilada sauce! This huarache was definitely interesting, and definitely delicious!
