Super Good And Healthy Mexican Vegan Food

Today we went to a vegan restaurant called Corazon Saludable.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best not so popular cheap eats, mostly family-owned, restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place, or big place, to tell you about and review the food and prices.

Today my friend came over because her parents had to go to work, but we were still going to go to a restaurant today and my dad reminded me that a woman called Dana Millar wanted to meet me and him and have some lunch.  I told my friend about that and we set out to meet her. She picked a little hole-in-the-wall vegan place, which we had actually driven by while looking for it since it’s a little hard to spot. It’s called Corazon Saludable and is located on Avenida Las Torres #131 in Aralias. The longitude latitude location is 20.642194283070143, -105.21520179746453.

Corazon Saludable is actually very interesting because they change their menu every day. Well, kind of. What they do is they give you two sides that are always the same, but then they give you one of a few choices for that day for your main course. And it only costs 99 pesos!! The two sides are a hummus tostada and a noodle vegetable soup. Today they had a choice of pasta, yaca “al pastor” style tacos, and chiles rellenos. Other days they’ve had options like enchiladas, tamales, burgers, etc etc. It’s always changing and you never know what to expect, and they always offer a few choices to suit different palettes.

I got some pasta, my friend got some tacos, and my dad and Dana both got chiles rellenos. We also got a jar of star fruit water and lime water. My friend and I weren’t a big fan of the food on that day, and Dana also agreed that this day’s food wasn’t their best and on other days they have amazing food. My pasta was kind of soup-y and had a creamy, “cheesy” sauce, and for being vegan it tasted very similar to cheese, but it was just a little plain. It had peas, carrots, different colored bell peppers, and macaroni. The peas were slightly crunchy and overall the veggies were nice. And there was nothing wrong with the plate, it just needed a little more flavor, which Dana kindly fixed for me by adding some lime and hot sauce.

The tacos were yaca, which is jackfruit, seasoned like al pastor on a nopal tortilla.  The tortilla was really good and tasted like a warm, freshly made corn tortilla, but  the filling was made with ripe yaca, which made it unexpectedly sweet. The seasoning was pretty good, though it needed a little salt, but if the yaca had been less ripe it would have tasted much more like meat. Either way it was good, just not what we were expecting.

Dana’s and my dad’s chiles were really good! They were stuffed jalapeños and they were hard to describe, but yummy. They had a vegan cheese filling, and it had a similar flavor and texture to ricotta. It was very crumbly and salty, and really good! The chiles themselves had a kind of sweet flavor but it went together really well.

Corazon Saludable is a very small place, and like I said before, we drove right by it the first time, but it’s pretty nice. There are only about half a dozen tables but they are all clean, and there are plants all over the place! I really like the plants; it makes it look really pretty. Also, the place is pet-friendly which is a perk!
