Everything Costs About a Dollar at Cerveceria Chapultepec

Everything Costs About a Dollar at Cerveceria Chapultepec

Today we stopped by Cerveceria Chapultepec across from the cruise ship terminal.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best hole in the wall, off the beaten path cheap eats restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place to tell you about and review the food and prices.

Ok, so I know I tend to focus on small mom and pop restaurants, as it even says in the beginning of my articles, but I think this restaurant is totally cool, and should be written about, even though it isn’t exactly a little place. The manager of Chapultepec, Jessica, started working there two years ago. It was her first job and she started as a hostess at 17, but through a couple years of hard work and determination she has become the manager at 19 years old with more than 20 employees under her. And, even though this isn't a little place, here are some reasons to visit Chapultepec:

  • a lot of the food is traditional flavors from Guadalajara
  • the plates are small, but very cheap and are good for tasting different flavors
  • there is a lot of room both indoors and outdoors so you can go with a large group or even for a party
  • for the adults and happy hour groups, every drink is only slightly over a dollar, what could be better than that??

Chapultepec is located at 2860 Blvrd Francisco Medina Ascensio next to CasinoLife and across the street from the cruise ship terminal Puerto Magico. The longitude latitude location is 20.653833017671474, -105.24004841350074. There is a lot of parking available since there is a hotel next door, and the parking is almost always vacant. And they have another location in the Marina, but it’s hard to find parking there.

Cerveceria Chapultepec serves a variety of different foods, such as seafood, Mexican, and even some American. They have mini burgers, tacos, tostadas, po’ boys, and many other foods. As for drinks, they also have many different alcoholic options including their own Chapultepec beer that has coffee infused in it, as well as a good variety of non-alcoholic drinks.

But, the best part about this place is the price; everything costs 21 pesos, or slightly over a dollar. Yes, everything, every dish and drink costs the same. The idea of this originated in Guadalajara, where there were small portions of food, or snacks, that were sold at pubs and bars sold for a very low price. Or sometimes for every drink you bought you’d get a free snack, but the more drinks you bought the better the snack would get until it turned into a full meal.

Chapultepec started off as just selling drinks for a low price to people getting off of work, but who didn’t have much money. Though, after a while they expanded to food, and now their restaurants are a friendly place for every one of all ages to come have some snacks. Their food isn’t anywhere near large portions, but they’re very tasty as far as flavor goes, and the small portions barely cost anything.

I first got an arachera burrito, and then I got a pierna “lonchecitos” as well as two red fruit lemonades. The arachera burrito had large chunks of tender, well-seasoned arachera in addition to different types of peppers like bell peppers and chile gueros, if I’m not wrong. The tortilla was also really soft and not crunchy but even from all the delicious juices coming out of the meat, it kept it’s shape and didn’t break out. The lonchecito was super soft and it really surprised me when I picked it up, as it felt like a cloud. The meat was tender and had a super soft texture, and was bright red from spices and chilies. But I do have to say that you couldn’t really taste the meat since the whole thing was drenched, and I mean drenched, in a delicious lonchecito sauce that tasted somewhat like chipotle. This was, quite literally, a finger-licking meal. As for the drinks, they were tart, which I really enjoyed, but also had a very non-subtle fruit flavor that gave it a layer of sweetness.

My dad got a shrimp torito, a gober taco, and two beers. The torito had a lot of green chile flavor and was stuffed with huge shrimp, and my dad really enjoyed it. The gober taco was amazing and really unique. I think, but I’m not sure, that it had shrimp, beef, and verrrrrry melty cheese. I normally wouldn’t think those would go together, but this was so delicious and definitely what I will order next time.

Cerveceria Chapultepec is very large, and even though there are many, many tables in there it still looks so big and roomy. The kitchen is on the right when you walk in and the bar would be right in front of you. And then on the left there is another huge area with outdoor seating, in case you prefer fresh air rather than air conditioning or if you don’t like the loud music.
