Flavors of Hawaii in Versalles

Flavors of Hawaii in Versalles

Today we got delicious and healthy poke bowls.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best not so well known cheap eats, mostly family-owned, restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place, or big place, to tell you about and review the food and prices.

Lately a lot of people have been asking me to review some healthy places instead of the fondas and places with heavy meals I normally visit. So, today I did. I actually have never heard of this place before, and had just seen it on Google Maps and thought it looked really good. It’s called Poke Poke and is located on Liverpool 102-L5 in Versalles, though there are two other locations in the Romantic Zone and Nuevo Vallarta.  As we were parking my dad saw a taco stand right next-door, and he was really interested in it. He went over to look at the place and the menu, and he said we definitely have to come back to try it. He also went over to a deli next door that had lots of different American meats such as roast beef and pate. But, back to Poke Poke.

If you couldn’t tell from the name, Poke Poke is a poke bowl restaurant. There are a variety of meats, seafoods, and even a vegan option you can choose from. You can also choose white rice, brown rice, quinoa, or a salad as the base of your poke bowl. The salad comes with romaine lettuce, red romaine lettuce, and spinach! Also, once you order your food you get a few sauces brought to the table. One is soy sauce, one is unagi sauce, one is mayo wasabi, one is mayo siracha, and one is mango habanero. But, none of them are really spicy, so you can ask for some plain siracha if you like.

I got a Philadelphia Poke Bowl with a white rice base, which had salmon, Philadelphia cream cheese, avocado, cucumber, nori, eel sauce, and furikake, which is a Japanese spice blend mainly consisting of dried fish and sesame seeds. I also ended up adding some mayo siracha to my poke bowl for a little bit of spiciness. The fish was super fresh and flavorful and it went really well with the creamy and slightly sweet cream cheese. The rice was perfectly cooked and even on it’s own it tasted really good because of the furikake seasoning. Overall, everything in my poke bowl was really good, and it went really good together. Even Michi really liked it!

My dad got a Tuna Fire Poke, which had spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber, habanero chunks, nori, sesame seeds, and unagi sauce. And of course, he added a bunch of siracha. He also got a white rice base, but he would’ve gotten the salad base instead if he saw that was an option before ordering. He agreed with me that the fish was super fresh and very good. His poke bowl had a lot of avocado and cucumber, so it was a very refreshing and light meal. But, it was also quite filling at the same time.
