DIF and “Becas Padrino” Program Encourage Children to Read with Free Books

Through a school project, books with different topics were delivered to beneficiaries of the "Becas Padrino" program.

With the purpose of promoting a lifestyle aimed at improving the comprehensive health of Vallarta's children and youth, boys and girls who belong to the Becas Padrino program received books that will help to promote their taste for reading with themes chosen for their healthy development.

Through the project "Crossing Borders," students from the University of Montemorelos in Nuevo León carried out an academic project, in which, in addition to giving lectures to the staff of the assistance organization, they managed delivery of books to children benefiting from the “Becas Padrino” program, as part of the support for their studies.

The books were delivered according to the ages of the minors from 6 to 12 years old, with topics such as promoting values, healthy eating, detecting negative behaviors, positive human relationships, psychology, and learning to read, among others.

At the end, each of the members of the university project received recognition from the director of the Municipal DIF, Celina Lomelí Ramírez, and the deputy director of programs César Venegas Arceo, who thanked the institution for a project that will benefit students and will promote learning through reading.

The “Becas Padrino” program grants scholarships to low-income elementary and middle school students. Donors are referred to as godparents, and these godparents grant scholarships to selected students each school year, providing financial support every two months, for 10 months, so that they can continue in school. The minors who are benefited with these scholarships agree to maintain a minimum school average of 8.5. DIF receives scholarship applications, and carries out socioeconomic studies to designate the scholarships. DIF is always looking for more “godparent” donors, if you would like to do so please contact their offices. You can call them at 322-225-9936-40
