Jalisco Joins COP26 Conference with Several Projects on Climate Change

The 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is being held in Glasgow, Scotland, from November 1 through November 12.

The conference encourages the alignment of local public policies with global goals, which is essential to meet climate commitments and the 2030 Carbon Reduction Agenda. Under this objective, Jalisco will work to strengthen alliances and strategies with different international actors. Through bilateral meetings, it will seek technical support from international organizations in projects that are developed in the state to assist in acting urgently in the strategy to reduce emissions to zero by 2050.

Within the framework of this meeting, the UN Prize for World Climate Action 2021 will be awarded. Several projects from Jalisco will be presented, such as the Metropolitan Climate Action Plan (PACmetro,) mobility and transport projects such as Mi Macro Periférico, the first 100% electric route in the country Mi Transporte Eléctrico, Rain Nest rainwater harvesting systems, air quality and deforestation projects, and the Agave - Tequila Zero Deforestation protocol.

Other projects that have been developed in the state for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change are the carbon budget and the state decarbonization agendas; the Mexican Climate Community; the Business Alliance for the Climate; State Program for Protected Natural Areas, Program for Sustainable Forest Development, Program for Fire Management, and Meat Free from Deforestation.

The COP is the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in which 196 countries from around the world participate, with the aim of advancing towards the implementation of the agreements determined in the Convention to combat climate change.
