Jalisco Students Return to a Full School Schedule

Today began the new stage for the return of all students of basic and upper secondary education throughout the schools of Jalisco.

Approved by the Board of Health, students will be returning to a full Monday through Friday schedule at regular hours. The Secretary of Education, Juan Carlos Flores Miramontes, was present at the “Antonio Gómez Robledo” elementary school located in the municipality of Zapopan, to supervise the implementation of this measure.

“Today we had the opportunity to start in the morning shift and we will do so in the afternoon with a new modality where we practically already position ourselves as we were before the pandemic, with full and complete presence for the schools of Jalisco in basic and upper secondary education,” he explained.

He mentioned that 97% of the schools are open and have a presence of over 90%, which shows that the sanitary measures taken in the schools have produced excellent results.

"We have practically all the schools open. The remaining 3% still have a hybrid modality because they are very large schools, or their group (size) did not have conditions to be able to guarantee adequate ventilation," he said.

He reported that those schools with groups of more than 40 students will continue to work in a hybrid way, that is, serving 50% of the enrollment each week, while the other 50% carries out activities from home.

He anticipated that due to the drop in temperature during the first days of the year and to cushion any possible increase in infections by COVID-19, after returning from the winter holidays, that is from January 3 to 14, students will continue learning at a distance, reincorporating to face-to-face classes on Monday, January 17th.

He also explained that the health protocols established to prevent the spread of COVID-19 will continue to be respected:

Correct and general use of the mask.

Hand washing and application of antibacterial gel.

Maintain a healthy distance.

Cleaning of areas.

Miramontes urged mothers, fathers, and guardians to continue performing the first filter at home, and if their children have a fever, cough, sore throat, or any other symptom associated with COVID-19, do not take them to school. Notify the teacher of the situation and go to your medical unit for care and diagnosis.

Finally, he commented that face-to-face attendance at schools is voluntary for the students' families, but that if they decide that their child does not attend school, the family must self-manage their learning from the tools available online, and establish communication with teachers for the delivery of work and student evaluation. Cinthya Lizbeth Álvarez Rodríguez, director of the primary school, pointed out that the school has classrooms that have optimal cross ventilation, in addition to that prior to this day they were organized with an emphasis on health protocols, which have been in place and working since the beginning of the school cycle.

The director highlighted the work of mothers, fathers and guardians to strengthen preventive measures, as well as her commitment to carry out the first filter at home and send her children without any symptoms.
