The State Emergency Committee met today, to discuss inter-institutional coordination in preparation of Hurricane “Rick.”
The meeting was headed by the Secretary General of Government Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, and the Director of the State Unit for Civil Protection and Firefighters, Víctor Hugo Roldan.
A Hurricane Warning is currently in effect for Tecpan de Galeana to Punta San Telmo, and Tropical Storm Warnings are currently in effect for East of Tecpan de Galeana to Acapulco, and West of San Telmo to Manzanillo.
“Rick” is expected to make landfall Monday morning in Michoacán, and it is predicted that it will then weaken in force, but still produce a lot of rain for the south coast and inland, and with an increase of waves and storm surge on the south coast.
As a means of prevention and the protection of Jaliscans, authorities from the three levels of government will maintain preparedness for the storm, with prevention and monitoring tours and verification of temporary shelters, particularly in the 49 municipalities in the southern and south-eastern areas of the state.
The State of Jalisco urges the population to stay informed through official channels, and the coastal population should remain aware of the continuous messages that are transmitted through the 27 horns of the tsunami warning system. People are also warned not to cross rivers or streams, and to beware of any misinformation.
