Governor Enrique Alfaro Commemorates National Civil Protection Day

Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez commemorated the National Civil Protection Day that was initiated as a result of the earthquakes registered on September 19, 1985.

The president delivered significant equipment to the agency, in addition to announcing that in the next 2022 budget package that will go through the State Congress, the double salary increase that is stipulated in the annual increase for all public servants in the state will be proposed.

“I will give the instruction that in the budget package that is sent to the Congress of Jalisco for approval for the use of the resources of Jalisco for next year, it can be included in the funds that are set aside for salary adjustment for negotiation with the different worker’s unions servicing the state. We can already budget for the salary increase that you are going to receive to be double what the public officials of this administration receive," he said.

He specified that it includes forestry personnel from SEMADET and those who work both operationally and administratively in the agency.

During the Ceremony at the Central Command of the Jalisco State Civil Protection and Firefighter Unit (UEPCBJ,) the work of the personnel was highlighted, especially this year, which has faced more intense and recurrent phenomena, as it was with the extreme drought earlier this year that caused forest fires, and during the rainy season with the effects of Hurricane Nora.

He also instructed the head of the agency Víctor Hugo Roldán to create a reinforcement program in which they are always ahead of time to act in the face of these natural disasters with prevention and assistance actions for the population.

During the event, 54 recognitions were given for: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service, highlighting the commitment and dedication that the elements of this corporation have in safeguarding the integrity of the people of Jalisco.

The director general of the UEPCBJ, Víctor Hugo Roldán, recalled the birth of this commemoration that was 35 years ago, one year after the earthquake that caused one of the greatest tragedies in the country in 1985.

"All hands will be necessary and at the same time insufficient," Roldán said.

He recalled that this year in Jalisco they have reacted to the effects of meteorological events in the municipalities of Acatlán de Juárez, Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Chimaltitán, Tizapán el Alto, San Juan de los Lagos, Zapopan, Zapotiltic, Atotonilco el Alto, and the biggest challenge in August with Hurricane Nora, which left disasters in more than 25 municipalities.

He instructed the authorities to remember the staff of the unit who has passed away this year, with a moment of silence.

It is important to mention that the State Unit for Civil Protection and Firefighters has a firm commitment to the Jalisco population, acquiring specialized equipment, as well as constantly training and updating itself, in all areas of emergency care for the safeguarding of property and the population of the state of Jalisco.

The event was also attended by the Secretary General of the Government, Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, and 80 officials from the different regional commands.

The equipment that was delivered during the event was:

  • 1 Ram double cabin 4x4
