Torrential Rains Continue to Cause Damage Across the State; Mascota-PV Road Closed

This Friday, September 17, a landslide was registered at kilometer 30 of the Mascota-Las Palmas-Puerto Vallarta highway.

The lane on the mountain side of the road is blocked, and there is a temporary passage for light vehicles on the other side.

Teams from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) of the Government of Jalisco, in coordination with the state Civil Protection, are working on the cleaning and release of highway 544 Mascota-Las Palmas-Puerto Vallarta, just at kilometer 30, where a landslide was registered due to the intense rainstorm.

Despite the breakdown, the road is still partially open to traffic, so citizens are asked to drive with great caution, since collapses are frequent due to heavy rainfall.

We remind motorists that at kilometer 55 of the same state road, SIOP is attending to another landslide that occurred this week due to the softening of the earth caused by recent storms, as usually happens at this time of year. In this section, a provisional crossing for light vehicles, and restricted for heavy traffic, was also enabled.

Both the 544 and hundreds of kilometers more of state highways are being intervened by the Jalisco Highway Plan 2019-2024, are and will continue to be conserved by the contractor companies until the end of the six-year term, in order to keep them in optimal conditions.

The rains that fell during the early hours of this Friday also left at least 21 homes affected in the municipality of Lagos de Moreno, and the loss of a minor who died in the Wixárika community of Chonacata in the northern region of Jalisco.

In Lagos de Moreno, the rain caused damage to homes and roads in Colonia 18 de Marzo in the municipality of El Alto; On a preliminary basis, 21 affected homes are reported, with water from 10 to 50 cm.

Personnel from the State Unit for Civil Protection and Firefighters in coordination with Municipal Civil Protection, are carrying out the damage assessment and providing support to the affected families.

In addition, as a preventive measure, Civil Protection personnel in coordination with municipal authorities made a tour of the entire "Tlalixcoyan" channel, to rule out any clogging or obstruction of it, mentioning that it is at 95% of its capacity. For this reason, federal authorities through the National Water Commission (Conagua) are already working in preperation, to carry out the pertinent actions.

An unfortunate accident was registered also in the community of Chonacata, where a family traveling in a vehicle was dragged by the current of the river of the same name, near the town.

A man, 2 women, and a child under 1 year of age were traveling in the vehicle. The adults managed to get out of the vehicle alive, presenting injuries that did not endanger their lives, however, the minor was not located. Personnel from the Villa Guerrero Regional Command of the UEPCB traveled to the area to carry out search tasks in coordination with local residents.

Unfortunately, the minor was found deceased in the riverbed, and his body was transferred to the corresponding authorities for follow-up. It should be noted that state authorities are in direct contact with family members to provide the necessary support.

We extend a call to the general population to stay informed through official channels and not fall into misinformation, as well as avoid crossing rivers or streams, and maximize their care during the present storm and in case of emergency dial 911.
