Government of Jalisco Increases Inspections and Tightens Enforcement of Sanitary Measures

In order to reinforce health measures in the state and prevent COVID-19 infections, an official meeting was held to learn about the measures implemented and the strategic enforcement needed in each of the municipalities.

The Secretary General of the Government, Master Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, led the meeting recognizing the coordination and disposition that has been had with all the municipal mayors in response to the issue of COVID -19.

“A fundamental factor in addressing the issue of COVID has been on the part of the municipal authorities, who… have had communication with the 125 mayors and… the care that we must have is emphasized in addition to the daily tasks that were done.''

He pointed out that, in response to the increase in infections and with willingness to comply with the prevention measures of the municipalities, several massive events that were scheduled in Ahualco de Mercado, Juanacatlàn, and San Miguel el Alto could be canceled over the weekend. He also pointed out that in Lagos de Moreno, the fairs that are commonly held in August have been postponed.

The mayors present indicated that during the past weekend (from July 8 to 11) the municipal inspection and surveillance departments strengthened their surveillance strategies, resulting in the following warnings, mainly focused on gastronomic corridors and nightclubs:

  • Guadalajara had 40 warnings and 4 closings.
  • Zapopan had 510 inspections, 210 warnings, 6 closings, and 16 reports attended to citizen complaints.
  • Tlaquepaque had 14 inspections, 19 written warnings, and 97 verbal warnings.
  • Tonalá had 46 inspections, 1 offense, 1 closure, and 8 warnings.
  • El Salto had 58 inspections and 18 warnings.
  • Puerto Vallarta had 3 closing warning minutes; 151 warnings and 2 closings.

The general coordinator of Strategic Growth and Economic Development, Alejandro Guzmán Larralde, explained that no changes have been made to the capacity allowed a month ago, but special attention is being paid to the sectors identified with the highest risk of contagion for evaluation for possible adjustments.

“We are doing the evaluation sector by sector to identify where there could be the highest transmission rates. Also as already reported,.. the greatest risks of contagion and multiplication are identified as precisely those sectors where we remove one of the most important elements to attack the pandemic, which is the mask. Those sectors are in all (areas of) social activity; bars, clubs, restaurants, social events, and perhaps in… the entertainment industry and mass events. That is where we are concentrating attention.”

The Secretary of Health, Fernando Petersen Aranguren, recalled that the Government of Jalisco has proposed to the Federal Government to modify the Vaccination Plan against COVID-19 for the state so that people 18 years of age and older can be vaccinated, specifically in places with a significant increase in cases.

"We can significantly increase vaccination in places where we have seen a considerable influx of people at a time when summer is present. The main priority municipalities for this strategy would be: Puerto Vallarta, Tequila , Chapala, Mazamitla and Tapalpa.”

It is important to note that this Tuesday the 13th, contact was again made with federal authorities to ask them to evaluate the proposal of 10 municipalities of particular vulnerability, to begin and thus cut transmission chains in places with greater influx in summer.

It is also worth mentioning that, following instructions from Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, Secretary General Enrique Ibarra stressed that written communication has been maintained with the religious expressions that are present in Jalisco to continue with health measures in religious spaces.

From the Government of Jalisco, in coordination with the municipalities and the Health Board, permanent monitoring of epidemiological indicators will continue and scheduled evaluations will be carried out to determine the need for adjustments to current measures for all sectors.
