Jalisco Increases Inspections of Restaurants, Bars, and Clubs

Given the increase in active cases due to COVID-19 and the arrival of the Delta variant in Jalisco, an agreement was reached with representatives of the restaurant, bar, and club sectors to strengthen sanitary measures.

In this agreement, the Mayors of the Jalisco Coast, Autlán, as well as those of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, were also requested to reinforce inspections within the municipalities.

The Secretary General of the Government, Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, who on behalf of Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez led the meeting with representatives of the aforementioned sectors, recalled that acting on time has made it possible to safeguard the lives of Jalisco by taking decisive actions, but pointed out that this variant is more dangerous.

“The main recipients are young people between 20 and 34 years old, and something alarming is that while the transmissibility of the previous variant of COVID was 2.4%, this is 8%, that is to say four times more dangerous and there is a greater risk of contagion,” he explained. He also remarked “We do not want to take restrictive measures again.”

The General Strategic Social Development Coordinator, Bárbara Casillas, pointed out that taking into account the recommendations issued and complying with the established protocols represents an opportunity not to lose the steps that have been gained, avoiding an economic setback in the entity.

"We are in time to take measures so as not to put the return to school at risk, which is something that all of us agree is very necessary, nor (risk) the steps that we have already taken in terms of economic recovery.”

The prevention of the increase in infections is aimed at achieving the return to the established back-to-school calendar in August, as well as maintaining the reactivation of tourism and the state economy.

“The strategy and the objective of getting our girls, boys, and young people back to school in August will not be reversed and we are putting it as the highest priority for the government, that means that we all have to make an effort, each and every one who is represented here,” stated the General Strategic Coordinator of Economic Growth and Development Alejandro Guzmán Larralde.

Therefore, the officials invited the representatives to fully comply with the protocols established by the authorities and respect the capacity and hours with which they are allowed to operate in this pandemic.

In this meeting the mayors present agreed that the municipalities will inspect and verify strict compliance and respect for protocols and capacity in meeting rooms, clubs, restaurants, and bars.

It should be noted that at the meeting the Secretary of Health was asked to give a verbal and written warning to the mayors of Tomatlán and Cabo Corrientes, who were not present at the meeting.
