Jalisco Government Intensifies Monitoring Sayula Fissure

This Wednesday, the Secretary General of the Government, Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, headed the board that will be in charge of monitoring the cracks that arose mainly in the free state highway 401, and whose failure was accentuated last weekend after the rains that were registered due to Tropical Storm “Dolores”.

At this meeting it was established that the cracks will be permanently monitored to prevent accidents, as well as to continuously observe if repairs are needed.

“In the first place, let us give priority to what the governor, Enrique Alfaro, has always instructed us, which is the safety of people and the safety of their property. Secondly that we see that since the section of the aforementioned highway is obstructed, it is important to ask the people for their understanding and even that the trips made are strictly necessary. And to those who transport cargo, goods, household goods, or agricultural products, we also ask for their understanding for all the delays that this implies," emphasized Ibarra Pedroza, Secretary General of the Government .

Staff from the National Autonomous University of Mexico will be added to the work between State agencies and the municipal government of Sayula, who will collaborate in the hydrogeological studies carried out in the affected area.

Since May 10, the date on which the geological fault was first detected, personnel from the Highway Police, Jalisco Civil Protection, and municipal personnel have remained in the area.

It is also important to mention that SIOP and the National Autonomous University of Mexico are now being added to the study work carried out by the Geological Scientific Committee, in order to safeguard the population that lives in the surrounding areas.

"Coordination with the SIOP and municipal government agencies, continuing to observe the behavior of the crack will allow the best decisions to be made and prevent risk to the population," added Víctor Hugo Roldan Guerrero, head of the State Protection Unit Civil and Firefighters of Jalisco.

The State Government, through the State Civil Protection Unit, invites the population to stay informed through its official channels, and in case of an emergency dial 911.
