Despite the decline of Mexican aviation to category 2 by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA,) air connectivity is essential for economic recovery after the Covid-19 impacts.
To promote the economic and tourist recovery of Jalisco, the State Government, through the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Economic Development, inform that on June 10 the first flight will be made that will connect the city of McAllen, Texas with a stopover in Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, through the Aeromar airline, and will have three frequencies weekly.
In this way, Jalisco expands its international air connectivity after the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, in favor of the reactivation and recovery of tourism, commerce, and industry in the state.
This new route to McAllen, a population that has 1.3 million inhabitants, mostly of Mexican origin, will promote economic, tourist, business, social, and cultural exchange between Jalisco and Texas.
“In a complex economic context, we continue to make positive progress towards recovery. This new Aeromar route will attract American and Mexican-origin visitors to the main destinations in Jalisco, including Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, and generate greater economic income for the state,”commented the Jalisco Secretary of Tourism Germán Ernesto Kotsiras Ralis.
Initially, Aeromar will have three weekly frequencies and expects to reach load factors higher than 80% in the first weeks. The estimated passengers to fly are around 25,000 per year in this first stage.
In this exchange, Jalisco offers beaches, mountains, and cultural, historical, gastronomic, and commercial experiences, but also an innovative commercial and industrial sector. For its part, McAllen has museums, galleries, a thriving maquiladora industry, computer services, and technology.
“There is a very interesting advanced manufacturing industry in the Reynosa area and connecting to the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, which has a similar vocation, allowing us to achieve interesting synergies between both regions, that is, we can enhance what is done in Reynosa with what is done in Guadalajara in terms of advanced electronic manufacturing,” mentioned the Secretary of Economic Development, Ernesto Sánchez Proal.
Among the main advantages of this new route is that the airline offers travelers the ability to change the date of their flights at the stopover point, with certain restrictions. In this way, passengers could extend their stay in Puerto Vallarta and/or Guadalajara on the same travel itinerary.
According to the airline, Aeromar has been operating a daily average of 70 flights for more than 33 years with a punctuality greater than 93% through a fleet of (3) ATR-42 and (7) ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft, with the capacity of 48 and 72 passengers respectively, going to 19 national and 2 international destinations.
