More Than Half of Covid Infections in Jalisco Occur in Women

Faced with COVID-19, maternal health is essential.

This Mother's Day the public is invited to reinforce prevention measures and avoid conglomerate places.  Jalisco has registered 16 deaths in pregnant women due to complications related to coronavirus in 2021.

Pregnant women are a priority group in the face of COVID-19, which must maintain maternal health care and at the same time preventive measures to avoid affectations by this disease. For this reason, the Ministry of Health (SSJ) invites the female population who is in the gestation stage or who wish to plan a pregnancy to know and adopt the recommendations of the public policies.

In Jalisco, 51% of the total confirmed cases of coronavirus have occurred in the female sex. Unfortunately, so far in 2021, 16 deaths have been reported in pregnant women due to this infection and 720 confirmed infections at this stage.

Another group of special attention are women over 60: This year 3,120 have lost their lives due to complications from COVID-19. That is why on the eve of Mother's Day, the SSJ urges to limit meetings with more than ten people; to wear face masks at all times, avoid crowded and poorly ventilated places, avoid living with people other than those who live in the same house, as well as going to a medical unit in case of breathing difficulties.

Although the vaccination against COVID-19 in Jalisco is progressing, it is important to take into account that immunity against the coronavirus is achieved starting 15 days after the application of the second dose (or, where appropriate, the only dose.)

Vaccines are safe and effective to avoid serious complications from this disease, but even vaccinated people can get and spread the coronavirus, therefore prevention measures must be maintained.

The population is reminded that those who received the Sinovac vaccine in Guadalajara, should keep an eye on the official channels of the Government of Jalisco, where they will be informed of the day to apply their second dose, once it is authorized by the Federal Government, within the National Vaccination Plan.

The SSJ reminds that the pandemic is active and therefore invites the entire population to use face masks properly (this simple measure can reduce the risk of contagion by up to 90 percent), stay for a short time in public spaces, maintain a distance of 1.5 meters between people, and wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use 70 percent alcohol gel.

In case of presenting symptoms such as persistent cough, respiratory distress, fever that does not subside or blood oxygenation decreases to less than 92, you should go to an emergency unit and not wait for a confirmatory test of COVID-19.

Since March 14, 2020 - the day the first two patients were notified in Jalisco - to date there have been 247 thousand 287 confirmed cases in the entity, detected thanks to the RADAR System; as well as a total of 11,887 deaths confirmed by the SARS-CoV-2 virus infection.
