PV Residents Urged to Use Water Tanks or Cisterns to Avoid Loss of Water During Repairs

After the flooding and mudslides caused from Hurricane “Nora,” many water lines and drainage systems throughout town were damaged.

With repairs of the infrastructure still in process, it is possible for neighborhoods to suffer a loss of running water during such repairs. SEAPAL recommends having a storage tank or cistern ready, full, and functional in case of any water disruption.

The 22nd clause of the adhesion contract for the provision of the potable water, drainage, and sewer service of SEAPAL Vallarta stipulates that when it is necessary to carry out maintenance, repairs, or modifications, the agency may reduce or suspend the supply during a period of up to 72 hours, except in cases of force majeure in which the user must be notified of the suspension of supply through mass communication media.

The Operational Director of SEAPAL, Rigoberto Velázquez Navarro, emphasized how fundamental it is to have a drinking water reserve for that period of time, recalling that Puerto Vallarta is located in an area vulnerable to natural phenomena such as earthquakes or hurricanes, whose effects can even last for several days.

He recalled the damage caused by Hurricane Nora to the drinking water infrastructure, as well as the electrical power failures derived from the passage of the storm that prevented the extraction of water from supply sources and water treatment plants.

He suggested that users have their storage system working, and to make rational use of the precious resource should any interruption in the service due to eventualities arise such as broken pipes, failures in pumping equipment, low levels in the tanks, scheduled jobs, or any other cause, which can last for hours.

He added that the administration headed by Salvador Llamas Urbina, in accordance with the instructions of the Municipal President Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, has the responsibility of providing quality service that contributes to improving the living conditions and well-being of Puerto Vallarta residents.
