Free Eye Exams for School Kids Monday and Tuesday at Kid’s Club

Thanks to Dig Deep 2020 donors, children will be screened and fitted for eyeglasses on Oct 18 and 19.

Amigos de la Cruz will be sponsoring a free eye exam and reduced cost eyeglasses for all primary children next week. Monday and Tuesday they will be having pre-screening exams from 9:00am to 2:00pm at the Kid’s Club, and Thursday the optician will be prescribing and taking orders for glasses from 9:00am to 2:00pm.

Coming in January, a free dental clinic will be set up at Kid’s Club from January 24-27. Drs. Gordon Croft and Don Cook are leading a team of dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants from Boise, Idaho. Also participating are Dr Andrea Muro and her orthodontist husband from Guadalajara.  A special thank you also to Dr. Adrian Malia and his former assistant Lucia Ortega for their assistance with donating time and materials for the clinic.

At Kids Club School this week, the students have found a rhythm and are making progress in all areas. Attendance has never been more consistent. The children are excited and are eager to learn. Reports from the primary school teachers confirm that the work at Kids Club has made a positive impact on their performance in the classroom as well.

In Arts with Allegra, they are applying color theory and how colors affect our lives on a daily basis, and also created a chromatic triangle to demonstrate that the children already recognize primary, secondary and tertiary colors.
English classes taught by America Garcia will begin again next week, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 pm at the Kids Club. Classes are open to all children 10-15 years of age. Come in to sign up.

The choreography for the holiday show with Lilly is coming together. They are practicing every Wednesday at the studio in Octopus's Garden restaurant.

The advanced group with Galvis continued with the natural and decimal numbers operations of addition, subtraction, and combined, the reading and writing of quantities, and greater than and less than.

In Spanish they practiced dictation and reading comprehension, and construction of free texts and stories related to nature and its conservation. They are implementing punctuation marks and capital letters. Until the children overcome the weakness and understanding in content, these skills will continue to be reinforced. A cumulative mathematics test related to what has been seen so far was also applied.

The "in process" group with Abraham continued practicing two digit multiplication and also worked addition and subtraction problems using interactive activities. They learned four syllable words (esdrújula,) and practiced writing grammar and punctuation, creating paragraphs, and reading for pleasure.

The emergent group was with John and Lilly. They are applying their addition and subtraction skills with a mathematics hopscotch game which the children loved and begged to play every day. They are reinforcing the alphabet up to the letter "H," distinguishing between the consonants and vowels, forming and pronouncing simple syllables, and practiced writing full names and personal information.

Meet Galvis Velasquez
Hello, my name is Galvis Velasquez. I have my Masters degree in Education  Since 1989, I have been an administrator and taught primary school in my native country of Venezuela.
I started working at the Kids Club on April 21, 2021, precisely on my birthday; I have been at Kids Club for six months now. My experience here has been wonderful. I am more convinced now than ever that I love my profession. I observe and see the results of the process at Kids Club. It is satisfactory to see the smiles, interest and motivation of the children. In addition, I have a group of peers who have the same purpose to help turn the weaknesses found in children into strength, not only in academics, mathematics and Spanish, but in moral values. It is all achieved with effort, dedication and commitment. That is the duty of everyone who loves this work and in my particular case I try to do my best. I am grateful for having an open door at this wonderful Kids Club.
