Kid’s Club School Takes on Middle School Students

Kid’s Club School Takes on Middle School Students

This week Kids Club added a new class of four middle school students in the morning session.

There is a great need to help these students. Thanks to Galvis for stepping up to take on the extra planning and organization to accommodate them.

Lilly and John are working with the "Emergent" group. They are learning adding and subtraction single digit numbers using dominoes and dice games as well as some interactive computer exercises. They had their first formal math evaluation on Friday with 10 out of 12 students passing with 80% and above. They are working on the alphabet, focusing on the sounds and script of the letters as well as identifying and writing the names of colors. They had a fun activity with geometric shapes, creating figures using templates.

Abraham and the "Processo" group is working on number and decimal places; ones, tens, hundred, thousands, tenths, hundredths, thousands. In Spanish they are working on an animal research project, focusing on characteristics and habitats as well as grammar and punctuation.

The "avanzado" group is with Galvis. In mathematics, they worked on the concept of natural numbers, created a poster of values up to the unit of a million, decomposition of quantities and number placement, as well as construction of reading and writing problems of natural numbers. In Spanish, they wrote a paragraph on feedback regarding Kids Club rules. They reinforced use of capital letters and use of punctuation marks in their paragraphs. They also completed Dictation exercises, reading comprehension, and construction of short texts. In the middle school group, an evaluation was carried out to ascertain their areas of weakness to determine course planning.

In addition to assisting the teachers, Allegra has been working on "corporal expression" with the Kids, learning how to manifest different emotions without speech. They engaged in several activities in the "art of walking," exploring expression through movement and space.

Lilly had a special activity for Mexican Independence Day celebration with songs, dancing, and costumes.

Amigos is providing the only in-person instruction in La Cruz.  They only wish that they had a larger space and more teachers so that they could take more students - there's a long waitlist to get into Amigos Kids Club.

$300 USD will sponsor one child at the Kids Club, from mid-Sept to mid-July, a full academic school year. You can sponsor a child(ren) or make a general donation. They offer USA, Canadian, or Mexican tax credit.
