Land Proposal to Build Sports Field in Parque Las Palmas Discarded

Councilors analyzed the issue together with a representation of residents of Parque Las Palmas, determining that the initiative should return to the Governance Commission to find another space.

In a meeting of the Governance Commission the initiative was analyzed through which the Union of Public Servants at the service of the Puerto Vallarta City Council, requested a loaned property for the construction of a sports field, and one of the proposed options was a portion of Parque Las Palmas. After a timely review and listening to the feelings of the neighbors, it was approved to return this initiative to commissions to find another space that is optimal for the project.

The interim municipal president, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado, recalled that the objective of dealing with this issue was precisely to analyze whether this request is viable or not in the field that was being proposed, or some other option should be sought. Unfortunately it did not pass their absolute approval, and the city council is the only entity that can approve or not the initiatives, based on the common good of the people of Vallarta.

He specified that erroneous information was being generated around this proposal, since it was said that the entire green area of Parque Las Palmas would be taken. The request actually only stipulated the granting of 1,200 square meters, of more than 19,000 of the total of this property; and would only be for the construction of a sports field for the interdependence competitions that are had, without considering other types of facilities such as offices or event rooms.

For this reason, he clarified that "it is not a proposal to take away absolutely nothing, and consider the point that what is going to be done is a sports area." He specified that this agreement was derived from the brief presented by the General Secretary of the Union, so this was only one of the proposals to be analyzed to determine its viability.

In this session, a committee of residents of Parque Las Palmas was present, who expressed their feelings to the councilors. Based on this, it was determined that the conditions did not exist to grant the proposed property in bailment to the Public Servants Union, approving that instead the initiative is returned to the Governance Commission to find another space that allows housing this infrastructure, for which options have already been considered, such as a space in the area of the new municipal trail.

The interim mayor informed the residents of the Parque Las Palmas neighborhood the procedures that exist for the protection of this green area, where they can receive guidance from the municipal trustee for its implementation, and can even present in the next town hall session the request to go to committee for the citizens themselves who follow up on this issue.
