DIF Vallarta Reopens Family Coexistence Center

The facilities were rehabilitated to have an optimal and dignified space with the collaboration of the Government of Jalisco and private donors.

Given the need to have an adequate space, and to follow up on priority issues such as the full development of girls, boys and adolescents, the Supervised Family Coexistence Center was rehabilitated and reopened at the facilities of the Puerto Vallarta DIF System, with the support of the City Council, donors, and the Judicial Council of the State of Jalisco.

With the presence of the interim municipal president, Jorge Quintero Alvarado, and other government officials, the facilities of this center were reopened and the collaboration agreement was signed in which, by agreements derived from a judicial mandate, the coexistence between parents and children who for personal reasons have disintegrated their family nucleus will be promoted.

In order for the space to have the adjustments for optimal coexistence, with a resource of 55,000 pesos donated by people with great hearts such as the architect Karen Malacara, Grupo Gova-Casa, and other businessmen; toys, dining room furniture, microwave, and other items were purchased. The City Council provided the surveillance cameras and the metal detector as a loan, and an alarm button linked to citizen security elements was installed.

In his message, the interim municipal president Jorge Quintero stressed that “this is an interest that we all have to walk together on specific issues, and today we fulfill the commitment to leave this space installed and working so that it can be used. The goal is to strengthen the relationships between children and parents who have not exercised custody, who will have the authorization and supervision to live with their children.”

The director of Municipal DIF, Celina Lomelí, reaffirmed her commitment to work for the Vallarta children who require it, noting that due to the pandemic, for more than a year the organization was forced to close the center to protect everyone's health. Now, under the new normal, the place is now reopening with improvements in security, services, and facilities.

The objective is to provide a neutral and dignified space where the coexistence between girls, boys and adolescents with their parents and/or relatives can take place, for the prevention, protection and improvement of relationships between parents and children who are subject to separations, and that currently cannot be carried out freely because the best interests of girls, boys or adolescents may be put at risk, through the delivery of reception, and supervised and assisted coexistence.
