Governor Promises Support for Hurricane Damages Within Two Weeks

After touring the areas affected by Hurricane Nora in Puerto Vallarta, Governor Enrique Alfaro spoke with merchants and some owners of damaged homes and promised to support them in the next two weeks.

The resources will come from the State Natural Disaster Fund (FODEN,) in order to reactivate the economy and resume the rhythm of life of the people of Vallarta.

In a timely manner, the Jalisco president visited the area where the Cuale River overtook part of the bridge that crosses the tributary, there he reported that there are about 300 businesses and 100 homes affected.

“I want to send a message to the people of Puerto Vallarta. We are not going to leave them alone, we are going to attend to all the people who had some kind of affectation. We are talking about around 300 businesses and around 100 houses. Above all, the need to invest in the first evaluation exercise around 134 million pesos for the damaged infrastructure, plus 66 million that would be for damage to the drinking water infrastructure," said the Governor.

He also toured the Municipal Handicraft Market, The Mercado, that was also affected by the overflow of the Cuale River. There, the Governor met with the tenants to listen to their demands, and promised to help them economically to recover their merchandise and to continue their commercial activity as soon as possible, once the ruling is made in the market to regarding structural damage.

“It is important to tell them that we are going to help all the merchants with what they have lost. In a maximum of two weeks the checks will be delivered so that they can recover what they lost. The inventory of losses will be made…What we have for natural disasters would not be enough for a third of the size of the problem, but even if we have to cancel projects, programs, whatever, we are not going to leave them alone, and we are going to fix everything that the hurricane damaged us in Puerto Vallarta,” Enrique Alfaro concluded. 

He added that the Civil Protection teams of the State, the Secretariat of the Social Assistance System, the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Works, and other state agencies continue to carry out search and damage assessment actions, in order to determine amounts and actions to follow.

“We have several days making a diagnosis of the effects on the infrastructure of the municipality and of all the affected municipalities. Now with this visit that I am making, I am visiting the municipality to determine what is going to be done, and make some technical decisions together with the Municipal President,” he said.

The Governor of the State also affirmed that the search continues for the woman who was dragged down the Cuale River in her vehicle.

Regarding the work that is carried out in the municipality of Puerto Vallarta, the Government of Jalisco reports that there are 5 brigades made up of 35 collaborators from the Secretariat of the Social Assistance System and the City Council and Civil Protection to carry out the census of damages and loss of household goods in the following affected neighborhoods:

The System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) Jalisco, through its Civil Protection staff and in coordination with the municipal DIF systems, continues to assist in the detection of affected areas and communities, as well as to compensate the essential needs of the affected population with the delivery of assistance supplies present in ten municipalities: Cihuatlán, Tomatlán, La Huerta, Villa Purificación, Casimiro Castillo, Cabo Corrientes, Mascota, Puerto Vallarta, Talpa de Allende and Autlán de Navarro.
