SPCA Building Severely Damaged by Flooded River, Seeking Donations and Help

SPCA Building Severely Damaged by Flooded River, Seeking Donations and Help

This was how SPCA Puerto Vallarta turned out after the hurricane ′′Nora."

Currently the dogs and cats of the hostel already have temporary spaces to stay thanks to the support of the Vallartan community as well as food and human care.

Thanks also to the J.J. Fernandez College of Lizardi Puerto Vallarta for granting a space that would serve the sudden evacuation.

So far the situation is stable, however, the economic part, the money, is necessary. Support is requested from all who can help in this difficult situation involving the lives of approximately 60 animals, the work of several humans, and years of life invested by many of them.

Following is a Facebook post by SPCA;

The news is unfortunately true. The river took half of our sanctuary last night. We managed to get everyone out to safety, except for 3 kittens.

Thank you so much to the staff and some incredible volunteers for evacuating the shelter to a nearby school in the middle of the night. This morning we were lucky to get 9 dogs on a planned flight to Vancouver today, thank you to our flight angels Leah and Christina! And then we started moving all the pets to some foster homes, and most of them are at a space in Aralias where the Cuale Spay/Neuter clinic is held.

We spent the day getting moved and settled there while we were also trying to salvage anything possible that the river hadn´t taken out of the ruined sanctuary building. Sadly there isn´t too much left, and the part of the building still standing is not stable.

Thank you to everyone who came to bring donations, food, towels etc. and helped us move and get set up with the dogs in our temporary shelter.

What we still need:

Cat litter

Cat litter boxes

Cat Food

And food for our employees who will be at the Aralias location daily.

Also 2 of our staff members who lived at the sanctuary lost all their belongings in the flood, they need clothes, women´s small and medium size.

What we do NOT need more of right now due to lack of storage:

No Plates and Dishes

No Dog Croquettes

No Cleaning Supplies

We will need more of these items in the future but for now we have enough and can´t store more.

In the future we will take more of that but not for now.

Thank you!! Thank you so much!!

Any donations would be greatly appreciated, as animal care is needed as well as a new building. If you can adopt or foster an animal, that would be very helpful also.

The SPCA of Puerto Vallarta was founded in 2007 by a long term resident originally from California, Janice Chatterton. We opened our  sanctuary in January of 2012 on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta.  We are a no-kill shelter and can house up to 130 animals at once.  We rescue and find permanent homes for over 200 animals each year.

Our main focus is to rescue the abused and homeless animals from Puerto Vallarta’s streets and place them in foster homes in both the United States and Canada until permanent homes are available.  We are not supported by the government, corporations, foundations or businesses. We fully function on private donations.  Animals are often found living on the streets after being discarded and/or extremely abused.  We devote ourselves to their physical and emotional rehabilitation, and (under normal circumstances) invite everyone to come and interact with the animals at our private shelter on our weekly escorted tours.
