Delivery of Uniforms and Shoes to More than 18,000 Students Begins

The start of the delivery of more than 18,000 packages of uniforms and school shoes began this week with the 'Miguel Hidalgo' kindergarten in the La Aurora neighborhood.

With the initiation ceremony the municipal government chaired by the interim mayor, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado, fulfills another commitment to the education of children and young people from Vallarta. This comes at a difficult moment caused by the current pandemic, leaving some households with a lack of income, which is why the family economy is being assisted with these packages.

This program has been established in the municipality since 2012, when the current mayor was in charge of social programs, and shows that education continues to be one of the priorities of this city council, a task that now also has the backing of the state government.

“In 2012 we built the operating rules for this program, and today it is my turn to deliver. And I feel very happy that after 9 years the education of Vallarta children continues to be supported, which is one of the priorities of the municipality. It is our responsibility to ensure the education of Vallarta children, of the future of those who are going to direct us in this port, so they have to be prepared and we will continue to be part of that process,” said the mayor.

He pointed out that as the municipal government, responsibility for education is assumed. Since the announcement of the opening of school facilities for this school year, work has begun on various issues such as sanitizing these spaces so that children can return to face-to-face classes, free antigen tests for teachers, and even the delivery of materials to the schools that were damaged.

He also recognized the important role that teachers and parents have had for nearly a year and a half, giving children the opportunity to continue their preparation remotely. He invited the parents to make use of the materials provided, and to not spend on, in this case uniforms and shoes, but also the backpacks with supplies that have already been delivered to each campus, and that the principals will be giving in turn to the nearly 52,000 elementary-level public school students.

On behalf of the state government, the head of Regional Linkage Costa Sierra Madre, José Adolfo López Solorio, indicated that in these difficult times, the application of these programs does not stop with the sum of efforts of the municipality and the state, and wished that these actions can continue to benefit more families.

On the part of the parents, Mrs. Karen Danilú Ortiz Conde thanked them “for the efforts they do so that we can continue to support the children. We know that it is the future, that we must bet everything for them,” and added that to continue teaming up with authorities and teachers will achieve good results in favor of the children of Puerto Vallarta.

Throughout this week the uniforms and shoes have continued to be delivered to the 245 educational establishments in the municipality, while the directors of each school will determine the logistics to deliver the 52,000 backpacks with supplies to the students.
