Joint Actions to Reinforce Health Measures Advance in Puerto Vallarta

Continuing the coordination actions to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the second meeting of the Municipal Health Board was held this Thursday.

The work that has been reinforced in this destination was announced, and its scope was evaluated and other proposals were presented that are being developed, and will be delivered in the following days to the state health authorities.

The interim municipal president, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado, led the meeting, recalling that the objective of maintaining these tables in which municipal and state authorities and representatives of the different economic sectors participate, is to strengthen coordination and form a common block to take care of the health of the people of Vallarta and of those who visit us, and not to take a step back in the economic reactivation that this tourist destination is experiencing today.

“I believe that we have been one of the municipalities that have taken more importance in this matter, that we have been taking care of all these aspects. Despite the infections that have increased, we have been the ones who have been implementing the most actions to prevent Covid-19, and we continue with the intention of working together, that the municipal government, together with all of you, implement the necessary actions so that we can move forward, so as not to go backward, and so that they do not close us down again,” said the mayor.

In this framework, he released a report on the actions that have been carried out through the different areas of the City Council in the period from July 9 to 14, seeking to strengthen preventive measures among the population and monitoring compliance with the establishments.

On the part of the Inspection and Regulations, 2 closures were enforced, 3 closure warnings, and 151 warnings for breach of protocols were issued in different establishments. Inspections were also reinforced to reiterate the obligation to comply with hygiene protocols. Municipal Tourism made 1,200 visits to businesses and 35 hotels, bringing information and recalling the importance of continuing with preventive measures.

The Citizen Security Directorate delivered 2,500 face masks to tourists and residents of the popular neighborhoods, installed filters in different parts of the port to invite citizens to continue with sanitary measures, and informative posters were placed in public transports. In addition city officials and transportation drivers always use their facemask.

Quintero Alvarado announced that the Social Communication Campaign 'Still Vaccinated, Continue with your Care' was also intensified, developing different materials in Spanish and English, which are disseminated through various media, public spaces, and are shared with the business sector.

The interim municipal president also recalled the request that has already been made to the federal government, so that as soon as possible the vaccination of people between 18 and 29 years old can begin, as it is one of the broadest sectors of the population. He added that it is estimated that in the age range of 30 to 39 years, 1 in 3 people in Puerto Vallarta have already received at least one vaccine.

It also reported that the state government has already determined that events of more than 600 people, including patron saint festivities and public events, have been canceled, so for the second year in a row, the traditional Paseo de Las Palmas will not be held.

The director of Beach Tourism of the state government, Susana Rodríguez Mejía, presented a proposal that, together with the mayor of Vallarta, will be taking to the state health authorities. It consists of the implementation of the 'Radar Vallarta' program for the implementation of random antigen tests for those who visit the destination, which would be carried out at strategic points by a laboratory endorsed by Cofepris and the health authorities.

In its participation, the VIII Health Region, announced through doctor Joel Raymundo Partida, that from July 8 to 14, the 'Radar Jalisco' confirmed 614 cases in this city, which represents a 20% increase in positivity. He also stressed that not all have required hospitalization, so that as of July 14, there is an occupancy of 37% with 45 hospitalized patients, for which he pointed out that although cases are increasing, it is good to continue with the implementation of preventive health measures.
