Puerto Vallarta Mayor Urges Reinforcement of Preventive Sanitary Measures

Given the increase in hospitalizations for Covid-19 in the city, the municipal government of Puerto Vallarta determined to reinforce the preventive and sanitary measures established by the Health Board of the state.

Particular attention will be given to the different commercial and tourist establishments of the city, doubling their surveillance, to avoid a possible re-outbreak of the disease that would result in a setback in the economic and tourist reactivation for this tourist destination.

The interim municipal president, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado, reported that he has issued instructions to the Directorate of Inspection and Regulations, as well as the Directorate of Tourism and Economic Development, so that actions within the different sectors of the port are strengthened.

“We have asked the Directorate of Tourism and the Regulations to begin to verify again the sanitary security measures in the municipality; the use of the mask, the healthy distance, the antibacterial gel, and that the capacity allowed inside the establishments be respected based on the current regulations issued by the Board of Health, in order to continue with the reactivation and to continue advancing in this matter,” he explained.

Likewise, he urged the establishments of the tourism sector to invite visitors to attend these sanitary measures, especially the use of face masks.

He pointed out that according to information from the VIII Sanitary Region of the Jalisco Health Secretariat, there has been a 30% rebound in cases of hospitalizations for this disease in recent weeks, hence the importance of continuing to redouble efforts and not lower the guard.

He reiterated that progress has been made in reactivating, but it is necessary to take care of ourselves and take care of tourism “because if we have a new wave of infections again, there will be consequences and it will send us a step backwards in what we have already advanced. Today the capacity has been expanded, the Board of Health allowed us more hours in the restaurants to begin to recover little by little, but if we do not respect the measures we will obviously go back, as in other states, and we do not want that the same thing happens in Puerto Vallarta,” he said.

Quintero Alvarado indicated that the responsibility as a government is to reinforce the verification of the establishments through the Directorate of Inspection and Regulations, and that the Directorate of Tourism and Economic Development do the same in hotels and the tourism sector. Both personnel and tourists need to comply with the sanitary measures, to wear face masks when indoors and on the boardwalk and other congested areas of the city, and in general attend to the established sanitary measures.
