Hurricane Season; Puerto Vallarta Readies for Tropical Storm Dolores

It is expected that for today and the early hours of tomorrow, the probability of heavy rains will increase for the southern and northern coastal areas, as Tropical Storm Dolores approaches.

Civil society is invited to avoid activities in forested areas and bodies of water that put themselves at risk from high winds and high sealevels.

Yesterday the State Emergency Committee, headed by the Secretary General of the Government, Enrique Ibarra Pedroza and Víctor Hugo Roldán Guerrero, General Director of the State Unit of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Jalisco, met in a virtual manner in order to establish prevention measures for the population, after the intensification of the tropical storm.

This hydrometeorological phenomenon is expected to cause intense rains and strong gusts of wind for the weekend, intensifying its force during the afternoon-night of June 20. In the coastal zone, sustained winds could reach 90 to 110km/h. Of special concern are the Amula, Occidental, and AMG mountain ranges. An increase in the waves of the beaches is expected from 2 to 4 meters high, appropriate precautions must be taken if you live along the coastline.

The State Unit for Civil Protection and Firefighters of Jalisco, through its Regional Commands in Guadalajara, Melaque, and Puerto Vallarta, began with prevention tours, giving recommendations in populations that could be affected by the passage of “Dolores”.

In addition to this, the Jalisco DIF carries out the preparation of 198 shelters in the 35 municipalities with the possibility of being affected. They will also install 19 assistance canteens, and for its part the Social Assistance Secretariat will install 14 canteens. Today it moves the first group of personnel to the area. It is important to invite the population of these localities to be attentive to the official channels of the Government of Jalisco, follow the recommendations, and ignore false accounts or fake news.

SSJ personnel carry out actions to prevent and attend to possible risks to the health of the population derived from the rains, possible landslides, and/or river overflows in various communities of the municipalities from: Tomatlán, Cihuatlán, Mascota, Autlán, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo Corrientes.

Among the actions to be implemented include protection against health risks, epidemiological surveillance, and prevention of damage to health. These measures will be carried out in coordination with other institutions of the entity's Health Sector, municipal authorities, and Civil Protection.

Since the arrival of tropical storm Dolores coincides with the celebrations of Father's Day, the population of coastal municipalities is urged to keep informed about floods and avoid displacements that could put their physical integrity at risk.
