The Secretary General of the Government, Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, led a meeting where representatives of the Federal Government, Secretaries of State Government, authorities of the Electoral and Citizen Participation

Institute of Jalisco, and representatives of the 125 municipalities of the state were present virtually to establish the health protocols that must be carried out during the election day of June 6, 2021.

Fernando Petersen, Secretary of Health, presented the recommendations that citizens must abide by in order to avoid contagion of COVID-19. Among the measures issued they highlighted:

  • Maintain the recommended distance of 1.5 m at all times.
  • Use the mask properly.
  • Hand washing with soap and water, as well as the constant use of antibacterial gel.

He also stressed that the COVID-19 line in Jalisco continues to provide service 24 hours a day.

On the other hand, he also informed that the polling station staff will have antibacterial gel for frequent hand hygiene, towels, and disinfectant liquid for the constant cleaning of polling places, furniture, and other electoral materials.

Additionally, the booths installed will have notices so that people avoid touching their face, eyes, nose, and mouth; cover their sneezes and not spit or eat food inside the booth. Also, there will be signage for the inbound and outbound flows, and it will not be necessary for the citizen to give his or her voter credential directly to the staff, but they will only be asked to place it on the table in order to avoid contact with the objects.

According to what Enrique Ibarra Pedroza commented, the meeting complies with what is stated in article 41 of the Constitution, which “establishes that those of us who are public servants in the various levels of government are coadjuvants in the organization of elections from the absolute ground of impartiality.”

This is an election whose purpose is for the citizens of Jalisco to elect 125 municipal presidents, 38 local deputies, as well as 20 federal deputies.

The General Strategic Security Coordinator Ricardo Sánchez Beruben, spoke about the security protocols that they will implement in order to safeguard the election day, and with it the security of all those who care for us who come out to exercise their right to vote.

In relation to the Prohibition Law, it was said that in Jalisco this is not mandatory, however its application will depend on the municipal authorities.

From the Government of Jalisco we recognize the openness and willingness of all the political forces of our state to carry out an election in which taking care of people's health and safety is a priority.
