SADER Jalisco Delivers 15,000 Seedlings to Persian Lime Producers

The Persian lime continues as one of the most dynamic products of the Jalisco countryside, and this week the Jalisco Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER,) delivered 15,000 more certified seedling trees to 60 producers in the region.

The seedlings, grown in the SADER Jalisco nurseries in Tomatlán and Tuxpan, will replace specimens that have already completed their useful life in the plantations, as part of the program for the Promotion of Persian Lime Production.

In the event carried out in a packaging area in the municipality of San Martín Hidalgo, the head of the state agency, Salvador Álvarez García, said that this delivery of the vegetative material is part of the preferential treatment that the administration of Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez has given to the field, as is manifested this year with a budget of 1.7 million pesos for SADER Jalisco. With these funds successful programs are supported, such as A Toda Máquina, which has become a reason for observation in several states of the country considering application of such programs.

“From the first day we entered the Secretariat, the instruction was very punctual and very simple: the Jalisco field is number one at the national level. We can boast of being leaders in several product systems, (so) the state government has to be at the same level as you, the producers. And this must be emphasized, because it has given us the opportunity for all sectors to grow, and it has given us the opportunity to work closely with municipal presidents," the official remarked.

He cited that in the case of San Martín Hidalgo, currently there are authorized support for five million pesos in various sections.

The general director of Agricultural Development of SADER-Jalisco, Ana Lucía Camacho Sevilla, highlighted that this year there are 14 programs of different support to rural areas, which means a state purse of 230 million pesos that will be of great importance to detonate productive projects in the agricultural, livestock, and fishing sectors.

“We are going to continue working to promote them. We are also going to work with specialist technicians to help them so that their production grows and becomes more profitable; to control pests, to know how management can go, and use it to add value," she said.

She argued that the actions of SADER Jalisco, together with the efforts of the producers, will have an impact on the economic reactivation of the entity and help overcome the negative consequences of the pandemic.

In turn, the leader of the Persian Lime Product System, Justo Camacho Berrueto, affirmed that there is a pending challenge to improve the price of the product in the national market, since there is a gap with the price that is had in the international arena.

The citrus growers supported are from the municipalities of San Martín Hidalgo, Cocula, Zapopan, Cuquío, Ameca, Zacoalco de Torres, San Juanito Escobedo, Poncitlán, Teocuitatlán de Corona, Juanacatlán, Jamay, Amacueca, Pihuamo and San Cristóbal de la Barranca.
